A solo girl visiting Singapore for the first time in middle of December. It is overwhelming to find a place to stay, so many areas and so many hotels. My budget is about to Singapore dollars per day. My requirements - Walking distance to food, shopping and MRT. Safe to walk around in late evening.
Good vibe around. Preferably easy access to some attractions. Is 2 days of stay good enough? Any suggestions of tour operators and tours that covers the above areas? Most of Singapore fits that description,,,there are shops and restaurants everywhere, and nearly all hostels etc are near to the MRT.
If its going to be a short stay and those are the main 'attractions' you want to visit, then I'd go with either Chinatown or the Quays. Chinatown is cheaper and more 'authentic'. The Quays are overpriced and very plastic, but there are a few budget places to stay, and its very central. And no need at all for a tour.. If you stay centrally you can walk from one to another no problems Accomodation is not cheap in Singapore.
I had a stupid room with no window and attached toilet, but at least it wasn't so expensive and very central. Here is a recent thread which covers most of the budget options. They're a good balance between price, location and quality.
